Root cuttings are a surefire way to propagate various plants that can otherwise be very difficult, including oriental poppies, eryngiums and verbascums. The technique couldn’t be more straightforward, and the cuttings need very little aftercare – once slotted into the compost, they can be virtually left to their own devices over winter in a cool location under cover.
