On your next walk through the woods, or while pottering in the garden, keep your eyes peeled for extraordinary fungi and slime moulds. Both types of organism play an important role in decomposing organic matter and recycling nutrients back into the soil. Colourful frills, bulbous protrusions and jelly-like growths are just a seasonal bonus.
