The kingdom of fungi has long been overlooked and underloved. We cultivate and nurture plants (fungi are not plants – more on that later) for their beauty and sensory impressions, but when it comes to fungi we either see them as something unsightly to eradicate or focus on productivity over prettiness – and are all the poorer for it. You might have foraged or grown mushrooms for eating, or sprinkled mycorrhizal fungi into your soil, but have you ever considered gardening with fungi?
Previously thought to be plants because of their immobility, only in theYet despite our closer evolutionary connection with fungi than plants, we are still relatively unacquainted.
