Wellington’s Wild Side

hen we head Welly-wards we usually base ourselves at Raumati Beach, which isn’t wild at all. It’s an easy drive, or train trip, of about 53km from the capital, and a place where our beachfront accommodation gives easy access to miles of beachside walking tracks, overlooks Kāpiti Island and in clear weather has wide views to the South Island. As well as great eateries and boutique shops, Paraparaumu’s Coastland shopping centre and services are just a walk away. Further up the beachfront road there is plenty of room for parking (including RV parking), playgrounds and parks, and seats to enjoy the ocean view.
