LONG ISLAND LOT

One of the highlights of the recent Cherrystone Philatelic Auctions was the sale of a ‘Long Island’ stamp from 1916 featuring a 2½ p overprint on a Turkish 1pi violet & buff. Long Island is a small island in the Gulf of Smyrna on the Aegean Sea. According to the auction house only 25 were issued, with 13 recorded to date, one of which is in the Royal Philatelic Collection.
