The Scoop

Mullin remembered for collecting the best of the best

BIG SUR, Calif. — Peter Mullin, a well-known collector of fabulous automobiles, a philanthropist and the founder of the Mullin Automotive Museum, died Sept. 20 at the age of 82.

Mullin grew up in Southern California and built a financial empire that eventually allowed him to assemble a high-end collection of cars — many of them French machines.

“A friend and I were working for an artist, a man of considerable talent, but there came a point where he couldn’t afford to pay us,” Mullin once said in a. “I realized that something was wrong. Here was this guy who had all this artistic talent, but who couldn’t make a living at it. So I went into business instead.”
