Short jokes have been around since people realized they could make other people laugh with words. Even more, with the popularization of “dad jokes” (jokes that usually revolve around puns and are fairly clean) that have proliferated on social media, we now see people using only a few words at a time to evoke chuckles (or groans) from their family, friends, and colleagues.

Humor is perfect in short doses, so it should come as no surprise that it would work well in short fiction as well. The aforementioned jokes contain 10 words or fewer, so writing humorous microfiction (stories around 300 words or fewer) seems like a natural fit
