BEGINNER TOTE

MATERIALS

• 60cm (⅝yd) cream print fabric (outer bag)
• 25cm (¼yd) cork fabric or faux leather (handles, zipper tabs and tassel)
• 70cm (¾yd) print fabric (lining and pockets)
• 50cm (½yd) foam interfacing
• 95cm (1yd) lightweight woven fusible interfacing
• 36cm (14in) single-slide nylon coil zipper (bag closure)
• 45cm (17in) double-slide nylon coil zipper (pocket)
• Decorative label (optional)
• Small rivets (optional)
• Double-sided basting tape
• Basting spray
• Chalk or erasable fabricmarking pen
• Hot glue or fabric glue (for attaching tassel)
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with ¼in and zipper feet
• 90/14 or 80/12 universal or denim needle (sewing faux leather)
• General sewing supplies

Finished size:

37cm wide × 38cm high
× 10cm deep (14½in wide
× 15in high × 4in deep)

Note: Read all the instructions before starting the project. Seam allowances of ¼in are used throughout except where otherwise stated.

CUTTING AND PREPARATION

1 From the cream print fabric, cut:

• One strip, 15in across the width of the fabric. Crosscut it to yield two rectangles, 15 × 17½in (bag front and back).

2 From the cork fabric or faux leather, cut:

• Two strips, 1½ × 25in (handles) • Two rectangles, 1 × 1 ¼in (zipper • One rectangle, 3 × 4in (tassel) • One rectangle, ¼ × 10in (tassel connector).
