PERSONAL CHOICE BENTLEY S3 SALOON

This is a story of determination, perseverance and love. It is a story that touched the hearts of millions on both sides of the Atlantic when it hit the news headlines in the US and here at home. But, first, some background.

The gentleman at the centre of the story, Edward Hughes, was born in Penicuik near Edinburgh on 11th September 1921. Edward saw six years’ service with the RAF during World War II, serving in India and Burma and elsewhere. On being demobbed in 1946, Edward returned to Scotland and thought himself very fortunate to take up a post as personal chauffeur to Mr J.R.J. Bell, a director of the Bell's Jute Company in Dundee. At the time, Dundee was famous the world over for the three ‘Js’– jute, jam and journalism. Mr Bell had owned various Rolls-Royces since the 1920s but, curiously, remained to the end of his days a committed non-driver. In 1953, he decided
