Cage & Aviary Birds

A season of tough challenges

SOFTBILLS

FOR softbill keepers, the breeding season is now drawing to a close and in my aviaries the birds are in a heavy moult. Sad to report, this has been another terrible breeding season, with only one red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) on the perch so far and probably no more to be expected.

With all the bulbul species I put down to breed I have had so many failed nests with clear eggs or dead-in-shell and a few chicks thrown out. My Pekin robins have done the same and what is more) have been disappointing.
