The back cover image of Gresley ‘A4’ No. 60024 Kingfisher close to the end of its butchering in a North East scrapyard in March 1967 is in devastating contrast to the same locomotive on the front cover. Just seven months earlier, the ‘Pacific’ is at Stonehaven, displaying a roaring exhaust as it bravely tackles the last leg of its three-hour journey from Glasgow to Aberdeen.
