MASSEY MEMORIES

Richard Sherratt has lived in Shropshire all his life, and used to work at the former Massey Ferguson tractor dealers Shuker & Sons. “I started by learning my trade in the workshop, and also did a stint in the stores,” he explained. “The dealership then transferred me to the sales department for several years, which was interesting work and included a visit to the 1964 Smithfield Show in London, for the launch of Massey Ferguson’s 100 Series range.”

Shropshire has a long history of farming excellence and tractors have understandably played an important role in that. Richard remembers the 1960s as a busy time, with Massey Ferguson machinery in big demand. “Tractors like the MF 35 and MF 135 were very popular, and we had no trouble selling them to farmers,” he recalls. “The 100 Series, in particular, was easy to promote.
