BATTLING BRMS MAKE GOODWOOD REVIVAL MEMORIES

In the circuit’s 75th anniversary year, a stirring Goodwood Trophy duel between Rob Hall in John Owen’s BRM V16 recreation and Mark Gillies in ERA R3A thrilled racegoers and set Saturday’s scene in the 25th Revival Meeting, before Hall retired the 500bhp monster.

David Morris (ERA R11B ‘Humphrey’) challenged before Ian Baxter (Alta 61 IS) passed Morris on a very slippery track. When seven-time winner Gillies was baulked on the last lap, Baxter pounced and outdragged him from the chicane to the chequered flag. Morris and poleman Ben Fidler (ERA R4D) chased them in.
