On the lower part of the grave stele is a shallow relief carving of a Greek hoplite, shown ‘heroically' nude apart from his weapons and armour. Above the image is a short inscription naming the individual commemorated: “I, Pollis, dear son of Asopichos, speak: Not being a coward, I, for my part, perished at the hands of the Tattooers.”
