GETTING THERE
Bangweulu Wetlands is a long way from civilisation, the roads are not great and the journey is long. The best option is to fly (contact Skytrails on ). Being just a short flight from the Luangwa Valley, the park makes an ideal add-on for From Lusaka, travel north on the Great North Road towards Tanzania until roughly 100 km north of Serenje town where on the left-hand side there's a signpost for Bangweulu Wetlands, and the relevant distances. Turn here. It's approximately 65 km of sometimes rough road through Lavushi Manda National Park and then 40 km through scattered villages, to Nsobe Camp, which is on the edge of the floodplain. If travelling on to Shoebill Island, continue for 10 km across the floodplain, following the causeway to Chikuni Island. From here it's 1 km to Shoebill Island. During the wet season, a boat transfer needs to be organised from Nsobe Camp. Travel via Kasanka National Park and Lake Waka Waka to Nsobe Campsite. This is a dry-season route only. Access conditions change overtime and travellers are advised to contact before setting off.
