eThekwini’s overflowing sewers spill onto graves

Sewage spill

Overflowing sewers, blocked stormwater drains and water leaks plaguing areas of eThekwini have been frustrating residents.

The Phungula family, from Dassenhoek in Durban, were devastated by the state of their parents’ graves following a sewage spill at the Mobeni Heights Cemetery.

Lethinjabulo Phungula said her parents were buried at the Mobeni Heights Cemetery after they were shot and killed in December last year.

She said after detecting the spill in April, they reported the matter to the cemetery’s management who claimed to have relayed the matter to the municipality.
