CARVING OUT CORRUPTION

A new anti-corruption campaign has been sweeping across the public health sector in recent months.

The one-year campaign, launched in July by the National Health Commission (NHC) together with nine other government departments, is the latest in a series of campaigns targeting corruption in the healthcare sector.

The campaign is across the board. The NHC said on its official website that the campaign covers the entire chain of production, circulation, sales, use and reimbursement in the pharmaceutical industry; and all stakeholders, from administrators and associations to medical institutions, enterprises and healthcare insurers, will be examined.

The campaign has also received a boost from China’s top anti-graft authorities, the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), and the National Supervisory Commission. On July 28, the CCDI held a video conference to request intensified supervision and enforcement of discipline and laws for the anti-corruption drive.
