Choosing your fabric!

As sewists, we all know the pain that comes from choosing the wrong fabric! Sometimes, fabrics have the ability to work but the pattern might have needed some tweaking to adapt it. Generally knowing how a pattern performs with different fabrics can take some time and experimentation. That’s why we rely on recommendations from a pattern or the designer to aid us through this process. As a pattern maker and professional seamster, the number one question I’m asked is about fabric selection. The list for potential fabrics for any project is generally quite long so I’m going to lay out some fabric suggestions and discuss how a particular fabric might react when sewn. Hopefully, taking some of the guesswork out for you!
