An excerpt from the book

ON 20 November 1973, two security officers visited Morgan Naidoo at his Queen Street offices in Durban’s Goodhope Centre, and slapped a banning order on the table. It was a five-year banning order under Section 9 (1) of the 1950 Suppression of Communism Act – by order of Justice Minister PC Pelser.

The minister claimed that Morgan was engaging in activities promoting the objects of communism. The prior intimidation and harassment had left him with little doubt that this action was imminent.

The ban prohibited Morgan from attending any social or political gathering, “addressing, instructing, or training pupils and students”, and being quoted in print or any public meeting.
