Frolic in fields of purple…
For six months of the year, 3ha of the farm Canettevallei outside Stellenbosch are covered in waves of French lavender.
“Until the end of September, visitors can come walk through our lavender fields and pick their own bunches of flowers,” says co-owner Ingrid de Waal. She has farmed with lavender for 18 years, but Canettevallei is in fact a historic wine farm that has been in existence since the 18th century.
“After an inspiring tour through France, I negotiated with my husband, Daniël, to remove 3ha of grapevines so that I could plant the oil variety of lavender, , and the,” says Ingrid.
