With the 500 Series spanning the latter half of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s, the range, as we’ve already noted in this series, evolved and improved as the years passed. Despite originally being designed as a European tractor range, the 500 Series was sold successfully in other territories. However, it’s always been most commonly associated with its significant presence on the home market.
This model range provided the bread and butter of the Massey Ferguson product line here and elsewhere in Europe, between 1976 and 1982. Built around a core of five models ranging from the three-cylinder 47hp 550 up to the four-cylinder 88hp flagship 595, these tractors were the first MF machines to feature an integrated, quiet cab that placed primary emphasis on the comfort of the operator. Compared to previous models, the 500 Series represented nothing short of a complete revolution.
