Decades of offshoring and illegal trade decimated America’s manufacturing base, leaving the nation unable to produce sufficient quantities of face masks, appliances and other goods needed to battle COVID-19.
The pandemic laid bare the danger of relying too heavily on foreign-made products and the urgent need to rebuild industrial capacity for national security. Sadly, however, those lessons are going unlearned.
