Our mission, should we choose to accept it, was to take two BMW G 310 GS machines and give them a real-world workout on a long-weekend adventure from Sydney up and over the Blue Mountains to historic Hill End near Bathurst, via the renowned and newly reopened Bridle Track.
Needless to say, myself and the Darcinator didn’t need to think twice about the offer. In double-quick time we presented at the massive Bikebiz dealership at Parramatta to collect a pair of test bikes from their gleaming BMW showroom.
And my, aren’t these spiffy little jiggers, the 310s resplendent in BMW’s polar white/racing blue metallic colour scheme, which mates with a glowing fire-engine-red chassis. The finish of the bikes looked great, and was only boosted by the fact they came prepped with a number of optional items that would help boost their ‘off-road’ capabilities. In fact, both bikes had already been through the rigours of a BMW GS Safari and came through with flying colours.
Our 310s were shod with fresh Continental TKC 80 tyres on the 19/17-inch cast alloy wheels, replacing the way more street-oriented standard rubber. The bikes also had BMW’s accessory protection pack fitted, which includes plastic wrap-around
