Oil tanker emptied in Yemen
THE United Nations (UN) has transferred one million barrels of oil from a crumbling tanker in Yemen, preventing a disastrous spill that could have devastated marine life and communities across the Red Sea.
The oil was part of Yemen’s national oil reserves before a civil war broke out in the western Asian country in 2015 and the tanker has been stranded in the port city of Al Hudaydah since.
An international team worked from 25 July this year to early August to transfer the oil from the FSO Safer to another vessel named Most Yemen.
