Q What’s the trick to using a disgorger? I’ve got one but I struggle to get it to work when dealing with deep-hooked fish. Some anglers make it look so easy when it isn’t.  ANDREAS LINDZ, WEST SUSSEX

Assuming you are using the standard type of disgorger, which has an elongated split ring type design at the end. You pass the line of your hook length through the hook length (snood, or line to the hook) through the split ring opening and turn it 90 degrees. Now your line cannot escape. You run the disgorger down the line until it passes the eye of the hook and contacts the shaft. Once in that position, you keep the disgorger in line with the fish and pull the hook length down alongside the fish whilst keeping the line taught. The hook then starts to take
