Did you ride as a child?

Not really. My two sisters, Lucy and Vanessa, were both keen and would go for lessons. I got dragged along, taking a football or a cricket bat to entertain myself. I became very tall very quickly — I’m 6ft 2in — and so riding was never really an option, plus judging by recent interviews involving Stradivarius, I’m not a natural horseman either. My daughter, Polly, did ride, but she fell off and broke her arm. My son, Sam, has no interest and when I left football broadcasting, he said: “Daddy,
