Trying a new solid approach

Q I would like to try eventing with my horse, but I’ve not jumped solid fences before. Would it be best to havea professional rider sit on him first? He’s my first horse and we have done some showjumping up to 80cm in the past, but he can be a bit spooky to hack.

I can understand why you might want to have a professional take your horse around a solid course for the first time, but if you’re a competent rider who is already comfortable jumping then you will get a lot of satisfaction in training him yourself. You can build up your confidence gradually
