Going to bat for Pinot Gris

SO, THERE I was chatting to Tom Cave, an old chum who’s no stranger to these pages. We were at the Test match and nearing the end of our first bottle, that of 2014 Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs, a strikingly fine méthode champenoise fizz from Kent made from 100% Chardonnay.

Tom’s in charge of customer private reserves at Berry Bros, and so chuffed were we with our choice of sparkler that we texted our former colleague David Roberts MW, now of Goedhuis & Co, to let him know how fineit and how clever we thought ourselves to be drinking it. By great coincidence, not only did it turn out that David was also at the Test but he was also drinking the very same wine, which only confirmed how clever we were.
