Published in our May 1998 issue, the first road test of a Kia product was a first-generation Sportage. While there was indeed a lot to like about this plucky-looking all-roader, the closing statement of this review highlighted a relative lack of after-sales support from this newly established Korean brand, as well as a question mark around the long-term prospects for manufacturers from this part of the world, in our market.
