Eric Crudgington Fernihough was a famous motor cycle racer in the 1930s… and a bit of a daredevil. He owned an early Bullnose MG from 1931 until his death in 1938. During that time, it was regularly seen at Brooklands where Fernihough set many speed records. He specialised initially in racing small capacity motorcycles, up to 175cc, but later found fame by racing a 1000cc Brough Superior.
Born in 1905, in Birkenhead, Fernihough studied at Cambridge before taking up motor cycle racing as a full-time occupation. Record breakers were rewarded financially by manufacturers and, although Fernihough carried out his own preparation and tuning, many of his records were achieved on Excelsior motor cycles. It is believed that he set over 80 world speed records in various classes during his career.
He was crowned European Champion in the 175cc class in 1931
