It’s standard practice on Tour. Whenever you win a tournament – doesn’t matter which one – you are guaranteed a visit to the media centre in the run-up to the next event. You are actually asked in to face the massed ranks of the press on the Tuesday after you have won the previous Sunday. So, two days later.

That’s all fine. It’s nice to sit down and chat about what you’ve just achieved. No matter who you are, winning is a big deal. It’s different if you win a major though. When that happens, that lone visit to the press tent is multiplied many times. After I won the U.S Open at Winged Foot in 2006, I spent maybe the next two years making Tuesday visits to the lads in the media.
