SAM Ramsamy will be inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame next month.
The organisation serves as the central point for the study of the history of swimming in the US and across the world.
Ramsamy, 85, from uMhlanga, is being honoured for his efforts in promoting equality in the swimming federation during apartheid. He will be inducted with Michael Phelps, an Olympic medallist.
Ramsamy grew up in Magazine Barracks on Somtseu Road in Durban and lived with his father, Ramsamy Rungan, mother, Rangamah Ramsamy, and four siblings.
