Miss you, Mum…

THE death of someone close is always tough but I have discovered, by the recent death of my wonderful mum, that losing one’s mother is a particularly unique and painful loss.

My mum was familiar with Land Rovers, if not exactly a fan. She had gamely been in my Lightweight (she deemed it “rather smelly and noisy”) countless times, and a lifetime of driving old bangers meant she supported keeping “the old thing” on the road.

When she met my father in the 1970s, he was the proud owner of one of the last Series IIAs made. She told me
