Power play!

Last month we had made the workshop reasonably weatherproof, save for the windows.

I decided that as I had two massive doors that there was no need for opening sashes in the window department and as windows reduce cupboard space they should be kept to a minimum. I decided on one large window facing the field behind my house, above the main workbench, and a glazed ‘light’ above the double doors to let in some natural light.

Because insulation was of great importance, I bought argon sealed glazing units of the widest caliper available, which at the time was 28mm. These were bloody heavy and I needed help installing them. I sealed them in with clear silicone against the rebate on the inside. On the outside they were sealed with another bead of silicone and quadrant wooden beading, carefully nailed in place with panel pins.
