POETS & WRITERS MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES application information for writers conferences, literary festivals, and residencies of interest to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators. Applications for the following events are due shortly. Conferences and festivals with rolling, first-come, first-served admission are listed well in advance. Some accept registration on the date of the event. Contact the sponsoring organization for an application and complete guidelines. When requesting information by mail, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). All accessibility information has been provided by the sponsoring organizations.

A.I.R. Studio Paducah

A.I.R. Studio Paducah offers residencies of two weeks to three months yearround to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the Lower Town Arts District of Paducah, Kentucky. Residents are provided with a private apartment, Wi-Fi, and studio space. The cost of the residency is $700 for two weeks and $1,000 for one month. Submit up to five poems of any length or up to 10 pages of prose, a cover letter, a résumé, a writer’s statement, and contact information for three references with a $25 application fee. Admissions are made on a rolling basis; applications are currently being reviewed for residencies in 2024. Visit the website for more information.

American Literary Translators Association Conference

The 46th annual American Literary Translators Association Conference will be held from November 8 to November 11 at the Tucson Marriott University Park Hotel in Tucson. Programming includes panels, roundtables, bilingual readings, a bookfair, a gathering of the BIPOC Literary Translators Caucus, and opportunities to connect with editors and translators. The conference will also feature special events including an awards ceremony, a theater production of a translated play, and a poetry reading at the University of Arizona Poetry Center. The 2023 theme is “The Place of Translation.” Poet and translator Sawako Nakayasu will deliver the keynote address on November 10. The cost of the conference is $275 for non-ALTA members and $200 for ALTA members for registration by September 30; $300 and $225, respectively, for registration by October 23; and $325 and $250 for registration on-site. One-day passes are available for $125 by October 23 and $150 on-site. Some events are free and open to the public. Atlanta Writers Conference

The Fall 2023 Atlanta Writers Conference will be held from November 3 to November 4 at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel in Atlanta. The conference features pitch sessions,manuscript edit, is $670. Writers who are not members of the Atlanta Writers Club must purchase a yearlong membership for an additional $60 in order to register. The deadline to register for a manuscript critique is October 2. Space is limited; registration is first come, first served. The general registration deadline is November 3. Lodging is available at the conference hotel for a discounted rate of $159 per night until October 12. Visit the website for more information.
