Boat International

Lippy from the Liffey

t's chaos here. I'm in Sotogrande in Spain on our annual family holiday and there are kids everywhere. With each year there seems to be more of them and the noise is relentless. I've never wanted to get back to my boat so badly! Don't get me wrong: I love being a granddad, but a few more days of this in Kefalonia. We're getting so much use out of the boat, it's fantastic. When we've had big boats, like our Perini (which is still for sale, nudge nudge), you feel this pressure to commercialise them as much as you can. So charter comes first, and we've always done well with it, more or less breaking even each year. With the little boat, though, we don't have that same burden – the running costs don't demand that we pack her out with paying customers. So we get a lot more use out of her, and we're able to offer her to friends as well. We've lent the boat to a couple of special people this month, as a thank you. Boats are great business tools, which is often forgotten.
