The international appeal of a grand and storied country pile, set in mature parkland away front prying eyes and with plenty of opportunity for country sports, has sparked something of a mini boom in this rarefied sector of the market.
Sales of super-prime country houses (£5 million or more) hit a 15-year high in 2022, according to agents Knight Frank. Some 168 of these homes were sold in the UK – more than in any year since before the global financial crisis.
