Tianna is a Birmingham-based photographer, specialising in maternity portraits. Her award-winning work has been featured both across the UK and internationally in competitions and exhibitions. Her recognisable maternity photography often features culture and bold colours as well as empowering elements to make her pregnant clients feel amazing. What do you do when you want to start off with portrait photography but don’t have a lot of money to spend? Consider how you can get creative with what the large majority of homes have – domestic lights. This challenge pushed creative limits and a whole new way of working. However, the fundamentals of portrait lighting remain the same. You want to aim to flatter the subject with light, first and foremost. Then the creativity follows.

With a budget of £50, there is a range of domestic lighting to choose from, but it is easy to get caught up in the different types of lighting available. I chose to visit
