Flying the flag

DELICIOUS ORIE says he will be fighting for boxing’s image at next year’s Paris Olympics.

Orie qualified by winning the European Games in Poland, and the 26-year-old from Small Heath ABC heads to France as one of the most talked-about amateurs in British boxing.

Professional promoters wanted the super-heavyweight on their books after he won Commonwealth Games gold last year in Birmingham, a few miles from his Bilston home.

But rather than cash in, Orie, who raised his profile further with numerous daytime television appearances, refocused on the Olympics and won five bouts in eight days to get there in Poland – four on unanimous points verdicts.
