Better chard from seed

Q I bought and planted Swiss chardin spring, but this has now run up to seed. We would like to grow more so when should I sow the seed? Phillipa Turson, Radstock, Somerset

Swiss chard ( var. ) and closely related perpetual spinach ( subsp. var. ) are, in my opinion, easier to). As you can see by their botanical names, Swiss chard is closely related to beetroot () and their leaves carry a slightly beety tang that you either love or hate. Annual true spinach runs up to seed quickly, especially during the heat of summer, but it is the best choice for salads.
