Two-time Olympic gold medallist Katie Archibald is looking forward to a “very special World Championships”, taking place in her hometown of Glasgow.
For the 29-year-old, the event comes with added pressure, not just to compete against the world’s best, but to perform in front of the home crowds, on the track where her career began.
“There’s obviously a lot more pressure than most other Worlds,” Archibald tells Cycling Weekly. “Super far out, you think, ‘Wow, that’s incredible. I’m going to have a Worlds at home. What a treat.’ Then you begin to forget that it’s so special as you go into that midground, and now you get closer and start to think, ‘Jesus Christ. It’s at home. Everybody’s watching. And it means so much.’”
