1 Great Palace Mosaics Museum Picture the past
any visitors head to the Arasta Bazaar, just south of the Blue Mosque, to buy scarves and kaftans. But inside the bazaar you’ll also find the entrance to a fabulous museum displaying some of the sixth-century AD mosaics created for the palace of the emperor Justinian I and his wife Theodora, one of the most powerful women in Byzantine history. These exquisite mosaics, uncovered during excavations that began in the mid-1930s, depict scenes ranging
