A concentrated slab of psychedelic mysticism from ex-Guapo veterans.

he second album from The Holy Family feels like both a album is an avant-prog landmark – yet while Guapo could shoot off in multiple directions, THF are about developing a theme and building hypnotic layers of sound. sets the scene, evil synth, bubbling elemental voices and dizzying arpeggios conjuring the advance of some dread forest army. The rumbling Iron Age bass of is leavened by chiming guitar, while soft wave of piano and organ blossoms in slow motion. But the circular riff and crashing percussion of moves back into more sinister territory, and leads into the three-part, 15-minute title track – a hi-energy release of cosmos-scraping guitar and devil’s choir, finally resolving into a swathe of new age drones.
