RED WINES

95 Petrolo 2020 Bòggina C Riserva (Toscana). A nose that dances gracefully in the space between earthy and spicy, from soil and underbrush to black pepper and cloves, turns over to a palate that’s juicy with cherries and rich with dark chocolate, supported by the embrace of sturdy tannins. This is a positively acrobatic Sangiovese. Vintus LLC. —D.C.

abv: 14% Price: $NA

94 Michele Satta 2020 Cavaliere (Toscana). Toeing the line between flinty and mossy, the nose intrigues with its earth tones and umami depth before opening onto a palate of just barely ripened Rainier cherries outlined by unrelenting tannins and acidity that will make for even better drinking in 2033. Monsieur Touton Selection Ltd. —D.C.

abv: 14% Price: $50

93 Felsina 2019 Fontalloro (Toscana). Freshly turned soil, spent coffee grounds and pencil shavings are on the nose with just a hint of dried cherry opening onto a palate bursting with fresh cherries and orange peel, structured by tannins that are welcoming but nonetheless hold their integrity. Polaner Selections. —D.C.

abv: 14% Price: $72

93 Tua Rita 2020 Perlato del Bosco (Toscana). The burst of Bing cherry and wild strawberry with rose petals and tar on the nose announces the equally exuberant palate of more fresh berries with earth tones of crushed rocks and topsoil, held up by sturdy but flexible tannins that promise more elegance with age. Winebow Imports. —D.C.

abv: 14.5% Price: $40

92 Carobbio 2015 A nose that’s metallic at first with aromas of brick dust and fresh cranberry slowly opens to reveal wild fennel and medicinal herbs. The palate is still herbaceous, but the cranberry is joined by cherry and dark chocolate through a long finish. Quintessential. —D.C.
