Keeping the balance

Some time back, hedgehogs were found to be destroying the population of whatever seabird on whatever isle and were subsequently eradicated by whatever means. Why didn’t Mr Packham and co set out their stalls and campaign for a truckload of surplus mainland badgers to be sent over to square the problem, essentially killing two birds with one stone?

Consistently observing more kites and fewer buzzards and kestrels, I continue to ponder the balance — more the imbalance — I feel that we have created. Rewilding is all very well, but it has to be managed by us.
