The Mk4 Mondeo’s 2.0-litre TDCi engine requires a timing belt, auxiliary drive belt, water pump and coolant renewal every 10 years or 125,000 miles, which can mean that some cars never have it done, either because they don’t last that long, or servicing becomes neglected at this age. Considering the job only takes two and a half hours, the parts cost around £250 and there are no special tools required, it seems illogical not to do it.
