Way back in 1989, Phillip Island hosted its first world championship grand prix. Since then the track and the island it sits on have become the spiritual home of motorcycling in this country, especially when MotoGP or World Supers come to town.
Last year the crowd turned up to watch Jack Miller in his only home race as a factory Ducati rider… and saw a corner named after the multiple-race winner before he got bowled out of the big event by Alex Marquez at the same turn.
After a two-year absence, racing is back. However, for those riding to the events… crazy weather was part of the 2022 experience. Major flooding occurred across Victoria two days before MotoGP, turning spectator areas into a pig-friendly environment.
