As the clock ticked past 5.30pm on 18 December 2020, Elise Middlestadt was becoming annoyed with her husband, Scott.

She’d had surgery that week and he’d promised to walk their new dog, Charlie.

When she’d called him 30 minutes earlier, Scott had assured her he was leaving work.

He’d packed his briefcase and was just stepping into the lift down to his car in the underground car park below his office.

Yet, Scott still hadn’t arrived and now Elise had to take the dog out herself.

Only, when she returned and Scott still hadn’t come home, her irritation turned to worry.
