My story
I got married at 23, and Iain and I wanted to buy a house to start married life in. We both grew up not far from Morecambe and wanted to stay local. It's a lovely area – I can walk to the sea, and there are plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants in the main town. This was the first house we looked at, and we knew straight away that it was the one. It had such great potential.
The house originally had three bedrooms and a bathroom, but there were opportunities everywhere. I loved the idea of making the whole of the downstairs an open-plan space, which was quite unusual at the time. There was also a huge loft with good head height, and as we were planning to have children, it was a way of providing more bedrooms in the future, although we didn't need to do everything at once.
