The secret life of skin

The skin is our largest organ and a true wonder of the human body, holding the fort as the first line of defence against the constant barrage of environmental stressors you come into contact with constantly each day. Think UV rays, temperature fluctuations, external pathogens, pollution and more. Yet there’s even more to this incredible and mysterious organ than what meets the eye.

On the surface of the skin lies a hidden world, teeming with a diverse and dynamic multitude of microorganisms that work tirelessly to keep our skin healthy and thriving, known as the skin microbiome. It is also cocooned in a unique brick and mortar-like protective system known as the skin barrier, which works in tandem with the microbiome. Both are integral to achieving and maintaining optimal skin health. In fact, almost all common skin concerns and conditions can be linked to compromised quality of your skin microbiome and barrier.
